Horse head reef is further East past the fishbowl and can also be reached after swimming away from the canyons down past the old anchor. Sat at 36m the reef is in the shape of a horse’s head when viewed from the Northern side. There are many small Gorgonian Fans in this area and Basket Sponges with Sea Whips covered in crinoids.
Hiding behind these baskets and fans we find large Batfish and Grouper. Occasionally other very large fish and sharks can be seen here. The strong currents and deep depths make this site difficult to dive but if the conditions are correct and the group is able, it can be a great place to see larger fish. Schools of Giant Trevally are often seen here. This site must be dived on the flood or at slack water.
