Prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must:
Be 10 years or older (PADI eLearning requires a minimum age of 13 years due to international internet laws
The Fun Part - Practical Lessons:
The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver.
The course consists of five training sessions in the pool and four open water dives. There are twenty or so motor skills that a competent scuba diver must master to attain his Open Water licence. Our Instructors will demonstrate these motor skills for you in the pool and then have you repeat them until you are very comfortable with each skill. Once you have mastered the skills and can demonstrate this yourself you will accompany the instructor out into the open ocean and repeat these skills unassisted. The depths of the open water dives get progressively deeper as you learn more and finally you are diving to 18m deep!
The Scuba Gear You Use
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use all the basic scuba gear and standard accessories.
Some of the equipment you wear may vary somewhat, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water but here in Puerto Galera, a 3mm long wetsuit is all that is required for adequate exposure protection. All our equipment is new and good condition. Regular maintenance is paramount in our dive shop.
The Learning Materials You Need
PADI offers a variety of home-study materials for the Open Water Diver course. While eLearning is the most convenient option, you may also chose a book and DVD package or a multimedia DVD-ROM.
PADI’s Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool (or pool-like environment) to practice these skills with your instructor. Later, as a certified diver, use the course materials as a reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you learned.
Note: Enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver Course Online for immediate computer-based access to the manual and video integrated into seamless, guided online learning.
